we’re obsessed with making the world’s best dance floors
Not the biggest. Or the trendiest.
We’re obsessed with the dance floors people remember for the rest of their lives — the ones where everyone stops pretending, starts participating, trusts the music enough to let it change them, and leaves more alive than when they arrived.
Everything we teach — from beat matching and phrasing to storytelling, nervous system literacy, leadership and facilitation — serves that mission.
Great dance floors don't happen by accident.
They're crafted. Practiced. And led by DJs who understand the real power of what they do.
Hi, i’m tasha blank.
I'm a DJ, educator, founder and lead teacher of PhDJ.
By 2020, I'd spent nearly a decade creating some of New York City's most beloved dance floors. Every other week, hundreds of people gathered to sweat, celebrate, fall apart, fall in love and remember what it feels like to be fully alive.
I knew something special was happening.
Week after week, strangers dropped their inhibitions, became more themselves - and somehow, at the same time, became something bigger than themselves together.
But I couldn't explain why, and that question stayed with me for years.
Then the pandemic happened. We lost our dance floors, and I found myself leading hundreds of virtual dances from my laptop. Without a crowd I could feel - just hundreds of little zoom squares! - I had to become conscious of the instincts I'd been relying on for years.
I started taking notes on my music, facilitation, transitions, timing and every decision that shaped the dancer’s experience.
What emerged wasn't just a handful of techniques.
It was a method, a map, and a cohesive set of principles hiding under years of intuition.
I realized the choices I'd been making instinctively for years could be named, practiced, and taught.
That's how PhDJ was born.
Today, these ideas continue to evolve every time I step behind the decks. PhDJ isn't just theory—it's a living practice that's tested, refined and taught on dance floors every week.
Because great DJs aren't just playing good tunes.
They’re shifting human physiology.
how we teach
The PhDJ leadership team brings you a full-spectrum, multi-disciplinary training that transforms how you show up in the world and on the decks.
We teach technical mastery and artistic intuition side by side. You'll learn beat matching, phrasing, library management and transitions alongside storytelling, nervous system literacy, leadership, and the psychology of the dance floor.
Our goal isn't to create DJs who sound like us.
It's to help each student become unmistakably themselves.
